1. Double up on those chores

If you’re a kid reading this post , then you probably have your set chores that you need to do, well, just because.

However, if you start to do things that aren’t expected of you, your parents should be willing to swing you a few extra pounds a week.

Completing simple chores is one of the easiest ways to earn money as a child. Strike a deal with them, and although it’s a bit of a slow grind, you could be racking up a few hundred dollars every year.

Not only does doing extra chores help out mom and dad, but it also puts a few extra coins in your pocket.

2. When Life gives you Lemons…

Ok, so i’m sure you’ve seen lemonade stands in your local area and thought ‘what a waste of time’, however this simple yet effective business model is a great money maker. It’s a great summer experience for the kids too!

Not only will it teach your child to have an entrepreneurial spirit but also teach them inventory control, cost management, advertising and customer service.

Win, Win!

People in the neighbourhood love to support kids trying to earn a little extra pocket money.

It doesn’t only have to be lemonade! You could sell Candy, Freshly squeezed drinks, or even ice cold water in the hot summer! Add a funny sign to entice customers over too and don’t forget to upsell with a sweet treat of some kind 😛

This stand could be set up at the front of the house, at fairs, sports events or at a local park, where you’ll receive the most traffic. Just check that you’re compliant with your local regulations.

This is the ultimate side hustle as a kid. People will want to support you, so give it a try!

3. Buy, Sell, FLIP & Repeat

Another great little side hustles for kids would be to thrift shop or buy items while they’re on sale at the supermarkets.

This is something that needs to be done with a parent or guardian, but essentially you find products at low costs and then ‘flip’ them for a profit.

This is something adults do every day to make a full time income, so why not kids?

Ebay is a great place to resell items (an adult will need to sign up). You could sell books or toys!

Work out the profit margins, start with a low budget and then as you sell more and more, put the profits into buying more stock.

Just like any business, it really depends how much effort and time you put into this little side hustle.

Reselling for a profit, is a tried and tested side hustle and is something your kid should try today!

5. Help out the Neighbours

Offering to help the neighbors with random tasks is one of the best ways to earn a little extra cash.

If your kid dedicates each weekend to going door to door offering their neighbours a helping hand in exchange for pocket money then they could rack up quite a bit.

You could really do anything that is required or offer up a specific service like:

  • Mow lawns
  • Run errands
  • Water plants
  • Cleaning gutters
  • Small house repairs

They can set their own price and get regular customers to ensure the money keeps rolling in.

6. Sit and watch houses all day

People are always going away for long breaks and this is an opportunity to offer up house sitting services.

If your neighbours are going away for a long period of time and they have pets for example, this is a great way to get some extra cash just by checking in a few times a day, feeding and walking the dog.

They will need to know that they can trust the person in charge of their home, so build up the trust by running errands and doing things for them beforehand.

7. Wash & Clean cars

Get them away from the computer screen and convert your driveway in to a neighborhood car wash. Stranger things have happened.

But honestly this a great little side business, especially through summer.

Design an attention grabbing sign and produce little leaflets to advertise through your local neighborhood.

You could even go round house to house asking if they want their cars washed.

Charge $5 each car, find 10 houses per weekend, that’s $50!

All you need are two buckets, some car wash shampoo and microfibre towels to give the car a good wax finish. Upsell with an inside clean, if you have a small portable vacuum available.

Such a great way to bring in extra revenue and teach kids the value of hard work. Make sure to build up repeat customers.

8. Teach a skill

Is anyone ever too young to teach? I really don’t think so. If there is a special skill your child has, why not teach this others for cash?

Teaching a musical instrument is a great little earner too. You could one on one lessons in private, or you can teach a class at a summer school.

Tutoring kids on English and Maths is also great for those that a blessed academically.

9. Love pets, Start walking…

When people go away, they do not often bring their pets. It is most common to leave their animals at a pet boarding service. However as a kid you could offer up your pet services to people locally.

If you’re a kid that likes animals, this could be a great way to earn extra cash.

For a day feeding the animals, taking them for regular walks and letting them out now and then to play, you could charge a pretty penny.

People love their pets, especially their dogs and are willing to have them looked after properly with the right amount of attention and care.

Make sure you have experience with animals and are able to offer the best service available.

Start door knocking or pass around flyers to advertise your services. Have low starting costs. Upselling by offering to wash and clean the animals with a pet grooming service! GENIUS!

10. Open up shop on Etsy

Whether it’s a slime shop or handmade crafts, you have the opportunity to open up show on Etsy.

A parent or guardian is needed to get this one set up but once done, this could be a great little money making business for a kid or teenager.

Whether you have a passion for crafts, sewing or art, you can turn them into a way to make some money.

There are a variety of things to be sold on a platform such as Etsy:

11. Become a Youtube sensation

Social media is bigger than bigger right now. Like huge! Adults and kids alike plug hours into watching videos on Youtube daily.

If your kid likes being on video or wants to show off a special skill, then Youtube could be a great way to make money doing just that!

It takes time to build up followers and start making money regularly from youtube video views. However, you could do product reviews for the latest toys and then put an affiliate link to the product in the description box.

That way, if you get enough people viewing your video and a small percentage buy the product, then you’ll earn a small commission.

Running ads on a video is also a way to make money. Work hard to put the videos out now and in years to come you could still be earning passively from youtube.

If your kid has a talent and likes being on camera, the sky’s the limit!

12. Declutter and sell your old things

Why not try the tried and tested method holding a Garage sale to bring in some extra cash?

This is also a great way to declutter and the cash rewards are instant. Why not get rid of old junk in your house and get paid for it?

If you’re selling online take great pictures and add an in depth description so the customer knows exactly what they are getting.

I have mentioned Swagbucks in quite a few of my posts because it’s a great way to earn cash for doing some of the simplest tasks.

You are, however, still redeem your points for gift cards.

The potential earnings from using a site like Swagbucks, isn’t going to break the bank, but it can be a great way of earning cash in your spare time.

14. Get your baking hat on!

This was a hobby of mine when I was younger and to be very honest still is!

People love food and especially homemade creations. You don’t need to be an expert baker. Get mom or dad to try them out first.

Making something as simple as choc chip cookies or decorated cupcakes could entice people to want to spend their cash.

Start door knocking with those freshly baked cookies and you have a winner!

Or bake a big batch of goodies and take them to events, if you’re treats are good you could become a regular distributor 🙂

15. Help out the elderly

Many of the elderly will have jobs they require completing around the house. When they aren’t able to do these jobs for themselves, they will usually be happy to pay a kid for doing it.

However, as a parent, you should make sure you trust your neighbors enough.

16. Be the neighbourhood babysitter

As Long as your child is old enough, then they can potentially babysit for extra cash.

Building up a rapoor with the locals is essential here as they will need to be able to trust you.

The key here is to be friendly, act responsibility and enjoy kids of course!

If there are no babysitting jobs in your local area, try branching out by searching on Facebook.

There is always a need for babysitters, whatever the season.

Parents, especially moms sometimes need to run errands, go out or even just take a break. If your child is good with younger kids, babysitting could be great for them.

17. It’s the holidays, start wrapping

Wrapping presents for some, including me, can be time consuming and just plain frustrating. Gift wrappers are people who wrap gifts for other people.

If you have a way with paper, tape, ribbons and bows, then get paid to wrap presents for people in your local area.

This is a genius idea to make cash during the holidays, so start now!

Or if this doesn’t suit, why not get your child to put up decorations for busy people in the area?

Holiday decorations can take hours to put up each year, so for a lot of people they would be willing to pay a small amount for a service like this.

18. Turn trash into cash

Recycling cans and bottles is as a great way to get some extra coins in your pocket, but it also helps the environment too!

Not only that but there are other items you could recycle to get cash from:
