Ever had one of those days where nothing goes seems to go right?

With everything going on in the world, it can be hard to be optimistic and wake up each day on the right side of the bed.

It all starts with a terrible nights sleep, stuck in traffic for 2 hours, train delays, unexpected bills etc. We’ve all been there!

Before you know it, it’s 3pm and you suddenly realize you haven’t enjoyed one bit of your day.

Soon you come to realization that you’ve been an unwilling participant in a constant stream of bad days.

When you wake up in the morning, you can either make the choice to be miserable, letting your mood negatively ruin the whole day or you can learn to set yourself up for the best day ever.

Oh yes!

There are proven ways to set yourself up for the best day ever.

Soon you’ll be a master at making sure you have a good week, month and year!

What makes a ‘Good’ Day?

It’s not about being perfect or having every single thing going smoothly.

All you need to do is take time to set yourself up for a ‘good’ day. What is a good day for you?

A good day for me is:

  • making sure my day is better than yesterday
  • waking up and feeling positive about the day
  • having a little more enthusiasm than the day before
  • getting through my daily schedule

There are 100% things you cannot control. It’s important not to let it affect your whole day.

Your job (if you want to have a good day), is to work around the challenges in your life.

For example, if you wake up late, maybe skip the unimportant things you normally do, and carry on with the part of your day that’s essential.

how to have a good day have a great day how to be happy

Every day, we can make the choice to be proactive instead of reactive.

Consciously make the choice to control how our day goes.

Caroline Webb, author of ‘How to have a good day’, talks about making the most of the waking hour and says:

“We miss a big opportunity, if we simply let the day happen to us”

How to Make Every Day a Good Day

1. Make the choice to have a Good Day

By making the concious choice to ‘have a good day’, you’ve already done half the job.

This not only affirms the fact that you (and only you) control your day, but also sets yourself up for anything but failure.

Use the opportunity every morning to say I and only I make the choice to be happy or unhappy today.

You could even start your day with some positive affirmations to confirm the amazing day you’re about to have. Here are some to get you started:

“I choose to be happy”

“I am the master of my day”

“I have all that I need to make today a great day.”

“I am, and always will be, enough.”

“I am courageous. I am willing to act and face my fears.”

“I am a powerful creator. I create the life I want and enjoy it.”

“I am valuable and will make powerful contributions to the world today.”

“How I react to the challenges in my life, is my choice”

2. Set up the day before it arrives

Imagine if you woke up every single day, knowing exactly what you had to do?

Planning your day ahead of time is extremely effective, as it make you more productive and leaves less room for negativity.

Focus and write down 3 important things you’d like to get done the next day.

If you wake up thinking today’s going to be a horrible day, chances are it will be.

Don’t doom the day before it’s even started.

Try waking up earlier than you usually do. I get up at 5am (crazy, I know), but I have a child and this means I can get the bulk of my work done before little one gets up.

Feeling accomplished is the highlight of my day, and being productive does that for me.

Do what works for you, it’s your life!

3. Spend some time being grateful

The power of showing gratitude for the life you have is truly incredible.

By expressing your gratitude you are saying to the universe; I am happy, I am content, and in return the universe will send you more things to make you happy and content.

Focus each morning on 3 things you are completely grateful for. Write them down in a journal and repeat them as words of affirmation.

If you are reading this, you already have 3 reasons to be grateful for. When you’re grateful, you’ll find you have less things to complain about naturally.

Feeling sorry for yourself doesn’t help and will set you back further than before.

4. Do something to make you feel good

If you could spend 30 minutes uninterrupted minutes every day, doing something for yourself that makes you feel really good, what would it be?

If you’re anything like me, you probably spend the majority of the day looking after your kids, husband and while it’s important to do that, it’s equally as important to take care of yourself.

In fact I’d probably say it’s more important to look after yourself first.

Put aside 30 minutes every day to do something that feels good (for you!). That might be relaxing in the tub, watching an episode of your favourite series or going for a walk.

Whatever it is, do not feel guilty for taking this time for yourself.

Everyone’s entitled to some alone time and everyone is different. If you feel like having a deep clean is going to make you happy, then do just that

Anything that makes you smile is almost guaranteed to set your day up to be really good.

5. Boost those Endorphins

How good do you feel after a run, exercise or yoga session?

If your answer is really good, then this is an even bigger reason why you should be boosting your endorphins as soon as you wake up.

Performing exercise releases endorphins which are your feel-good hormones.

In fact having regular sexual activity releases this hormone in abundance making you happier and less stressed at the same time.

You don’t have to exercise for an hour every day, start small and work your way up.

If you feel yourself going down the negative route, try exercising for 10 minutes, giving you that boost to stay happy and healthy.

6. When You Eat Well, You Feel Well

You are what you eat..

You think someone just pulled that one out of thin air? No, this has more truth to it than you think.

When you eat well, you feel good. The foods you eat can make a drastic difference to the way you feel and act.

Look for foods that’ll increase your mood and not the foods that make you feel yukky. East something that’s not only good for you, but tastes fricking awesome.

7. Focus on the Positive

Whenever you feel low or are facing a challenges at home or work, try and shift your mindset to focus on all the positives of the day.

If you have negative feelings about going to work, remember why you go to work. It could be the money, the people or the fact that you’re able to get out of the house every day.

Unfortunately complaining and dwelling on the negative, only brings more misery.

Close your eyes and focus on all the reasons you’re doing what you’re doing. If you really aren’t feeling your current situation, work on positive steps you need to take to fix it.

Let go of the insignificant little issues that block your path of ultimate happiness.

Not everything is going to go your way, the sooner you accept that the better.

Many use social media as a little break away from the norm, however long periods of time spent on facebook or Instagram, can actually make you feel even worse.

Stay away from social media, if you know it always leaves you feeling low.

8. Don’t try and do everything all at once

If you’ve ever tried to juggle more than one thing at one time, you’ll know how stressful this can be on our mind and body.

Multitasking is the last thing you want to do when you’re looking to have a good, productive day.

Instead, what you should do is structure time blocks in the day to deal with all of your responsibilities.

Focus on getting one things done at a time. Don’t get to a point where you’re doing so much, you reach the point of burnout.

This not only decreases your productivity, but it leads to mental exhaustion.

And that’s not good for anybody!

Create a list of things you have to get done, sort them in order of priority and add a deadline. You should have a better understanding of what you’re able to get done that day.

Make sure to minimize distractions and block out time to deal with personal issues.

Remember everything takes practice

Why not try doing something special for someone else to make yourself feel good, it usually works for me.

But make sure you come first!

It’s hard, but try taking the positive from every negative and you’ll soon see your days, weeks and months start to shift.
